Middleweight contender Jared Cannonier entered Saturday’s main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas against Gregory Rodrigues coming off back-to-back losses. “The Killa Gorilla” was in urgent need of a win and things did not get off to a great start.
Rodrigues dropped Cannonier twice in the opening round and looked to be well on his way to an early finish. Cannonier recovered, regrouped and adjusted in the second round taking the fight to the Brazilian.
Questioned about how badly he was hurt in the first round during his Octagon Interview with Daniel Cormier, Cannonier said, “I guess I was hurt enough to get dropped on my ass a couple of times in that fight.”
“But naturally so. Gregory hits hard as hell and he was slinging big-ass shots. I was able to weather the storm and keep my composure even in those really tough spots. Worked my way back up to my feet and I’d rather die on my feet than on my back.”
