‘Do it for Diogo’ – Liverpool will have poignant motivation this season

Bayern Munich’s 2025 Club World Cup journey ended in heartbreak — not just from their 2-0 quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, but also from the shocking injury sustained by Jamal Musiala, who fractured his fibula following a collision with rival goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Now, as Musiala begins the long road to recovery, he has shared a heartfelt message with fans — and a calm, powerful response to the man at the center of the incident.

Musiala’s injury occurred during Bayern’s clash with PSG, a match that was expected to showcase two of Europe’s most dynamic attacking units. Instead, it quickly turned into a nightmare for the German giants. The 22-year-old midfielder went down after a high-speed challenge from the Italian. Medical staff rushed onto the field, and the severity was immediately clear.

Diagnosed with a fractured fibula and ligament damage, the 22-year-old was ruled out for four to five months, a timeline that may extend depending on his rehabilitation progress. For Bayern, losing their most creative player just as the season enters a crucial stage has altered everything.

Five days after the incident, Musiala posted a video message on Instagram that surprised many with its clarity and composure. The Bayern star looked directly into the camera and, in a calm tone, said: “The surgery went really well. I’m in good care. And I wanted to say that there’s no one to blame for this. I think situations like this happen.”

That five-word message — “no one is to blame” — struck a chord across the soccer world. In a moment when others might have pointed fingers, the German talent chose grace.

Donnarumma under fire — But Musiala takes the high road

Following the game, some Bayern figures were less forgiving. Manuel Neuer and sporting director Max Eberl both criticized Donnarumma, hinting at recklessness. The Italian goalkeeper himself appeared visibly shaken after the match and has since kept a low profile ahead of PSG’s upcoming semifinal against Real Madrid.

Still, Musiala made it clear that he held no ill will. “It’s amazing to see how the football world comes together in moments like this, and I am truly grateful,” he added. “I’ll use this upcoming period to recover, both physically and mentally.”

With 21 goals and five assists last season, this was shaping up to be the finest campaign of his career. But even from the sidelines, he remains a leader. “I’m going to use this time to regain strength and confidence. I look forward to seeing you all again,” he concluded.
