Jake Paul put many people on notice during his pro boxing debut when he landed a huge first-round knockout, but the fight didn’t go as planned.
The YouTube star has long been a controversial figure online throughout his years of content creation on various platforms, and he effortlessly carried that personality over to boxing. While the sport boasts numerous talents who are ready to step up and be the face of boxing, many viewers seem to gravitate toward ‘The Problem Child’ whenever he’s under the spotlight.
Wins over Mike Tyson, Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, and more were all made possible after Jake Paul’s successful professional debut, though that fight didn’t go exactly according to plan.
As claimed by Paul himself, he was unable to showcase much of his true ability when he collided with fellow influencer AnEsonGib half a decade ago.
“I didn’t even really get to show my skill,” Jake Paul said. “I didn’t land any of my really hard punches.”
“[My punches] were all kind of off the very top of the head or [they] barely missed.”
Jake Paul’s power in the ring is undeniable, but his former coach and boxing legend, Shane Mosley, knew the skill Paul possessed.
“Shane always told me in practice, ‘Yo, you have power, you have power.’ And I never [realized it]. I was like, ‘Okay, cool, whatever.'”
“He was telling me that, but I didn’t really realize it until I knocked [AnEsonGib] out in the first round. So, f***, here we are.”

Since that fateful day, Jake Paul has become somewhat of an undeniable entity in boxing.
Paul finds himself in blockbuster matchups, though some have a problem with his approach to the fight game.
However, fan opinion hasn’t derailed the 28-year-old’s career plan. Jake Paul will lock horns with the ageing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28.
