Sinner Routs Ruud

Jannik Sinner dismantled Casper Ruud 6-0, 6-1 in a 64-minute quarter-final masterclass in Rome. The top-seeded Italian overwhelmed the Madrid champion from the outset on Campo Centrale, striking with relentless power and precision off both wings to dominate throughout.
Sinner set the tone early, winning 16 of the first 18 points and breaking Ruud to love in the opening game with a pinpoint angled winner off a net cord.
His crisp groundstrokes secured a 6-0 first set as Ruud could not find his rhythm and was way off the pace.
Despite finally holding for 1-2, the Norwegian couldn’t stem Sinner’s onslaught as the Italian closed four consecutive games to seal the victory.
Sinner took Ruud apart in this one, winning 68% of return points and not facing a single break point in one of the most one-sided matches at this level I’ve seen in years.
We saw at the ATP Finals in Turin that Ruud is cannon fodder for Sinner on anything other than a high-bouncing clay court, and Rome isn’t playing lively, so the Norwegian’s shots just sat right in the slot and got the treatment.
Ruud doesn’t serve smart either, in my opinion. It’s not easy to hold serve on clay, but what he offers up is like buffet serving – help yourself!
Every one of us has one or two opponents, and we struggle a bit more. I tried to replicate what I’ve done in the past today on a different surface. I was hitting the ball very well. These conditions… playing at night against Casper is a bit better in my point of view because he can’t make the ball bounce as much. Everything went my way today. Some net cords. Some lines. The match can change quickly… if I didn’t serve well at 2-1, we’re even again. Could’ve been a game changer. I’m happy with how I handled the situation. Sinner on his win.

Highlights
Paul Halts Hurkacz

Tommy Paul is back in the Rome semi-finals thanks to a 7-6(4), 6-3 takedown of Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday.
The American outgunned the big-hitting Pole in a wild, break-heavy first set before cruising to a one-hour, 58-minute victory.
Paul, who beat Hurkacz at the same stage last year, hasn’t played much European clay swing, but he’s delivered at the Foro Italico.
The first set was a slugfest with six breaks, but Paul stayed cool after failing to serve it out at 5-4, getting the job done in the tie break.
In the second set, after saving a break point in his opening service game, Paul broke for 2-0 and carried that advantage to the finish line. He’s the better athlete, and as the match wore on, he got stronger.
Paul could crack the Top 10 with a final appearance. But he has Jannik Sinner in the way.
Every time I come here, I feel at home. The courts match up with my game really well. I feel comfortable out here and I’ve been playing some good tennis this week. Both of us were returning so well, obviously we would have liked to be hitting our spots better on serve. We were keeping the pressure in our service games. I thought I regrouped pretty well in the breaker, and then into the second set. Paul on his win.
