The University of Iowa had agreed to terms with Drake University’s Ben McCollum as their next men’s basketball head coach. McCollum was at Drake for one season and led the Bulldogs to a 31-4 record and their first NCAA Tournament win since 1971.
McCollum was formerly the head coach of Division II program Northwest Missouri State. In 15 seasons, McCollum led the program to four Division II national championships.
Iowa fired Fran McCaffrey after the season, following 15 years leading the Hawkeyes program. Iowa hasn’t advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 1999.
