There is “interest” from Serie A in signing Jadon Sancho this summer with the expectation that the 25-year-old winger will return to Manchester United at the end of the season, according to a report.
Sancho swapped Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge last summer to join Chelsea on a season-long loan with a buy-obligation clause if the Blues finished 15th or higher in the Premier League.
This was triggered in April after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Fulham put them beyond reach of the team in 16th.
However, the London club included a £5 million penalty clause in the deal with United which enables them to renege on the obligation to buy after an anonymous campaign from Sancho at Stamford Bridge.
There has no official communication from Chelsea that they intend to activate this with Miguel Delaney (The Independent) revealing the club will “only decide whether they want to take up a permanent option after a post-season summit.”
But there is growing interest in Sancho from abroad, suggesting suitors have been alerted to the prospect of the 25-year-old winger being available on the market this summer.
The Red Devils hold no interest in welcoming Sancho back into Ruben Amorim’s squad and will push for a permanent exit should Chelsea exercise their reversal clause.
Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have been linked with moves while Bayer Leverkusen have also been reported an option for Sancho to return to the league which he thrived in prior to his £73m move to Old Trafford in 2021.
But Delaney contends there is also “interest from Serie A” in Sancho after Juventus came close to signing him last summer before he settled on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Borussia Dortmund – Sancho’s club before United, and where he spent the second half of last season on loan – have “have passed up the chance of a deal,” the reporter details.
Leverkusen would present an attractive option to Sancho as it would enable him to regain his scintillating form in Bundesliga which made him one of the standout stars in European football.
However, this potential move could be scuppered by an old foe of the 25-year-old winger – Erik ten Hag – as the Dutchman is a strong option to replace Xabi Alonso as the BayArena this summer.
The pair fell out in spectacular fashion during their time together at Old Trafford which eventually sparked Sancho’s return to Dortmund on loan last year. If Ten Hag was to take over at the German club, it could rule out their interest in Sancho due to this damaged relationship, according to The Mirror.
