India gained a 2-0 series lead in the T20I series against England with a thrilling win at Chennai. The third T20I between the teams will be played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, where the two teams also played one of the Tests last year.
The Men in Blue once again put England in and it seemed to pay dividends as Arshdeep Singh struck in the first over. The hosts kept striking back with a flurry of wickets, but Jos Buttler kept attacking in his natural style. His dismissal, though, put the visiting side in dire straits as England had lost 5 wickets before the tenth over with India’s spinners doing all the damage again. Debutant Jamie Smith showed his natural flair in a short stay, but Brydon Carse kept The Three Lions afloat with some quick runs even though their total was below par.
The chase started strong, but were quickly on the back foot after losing wickets quickly. England’s pacers used the bounce and zip to induce collapses in with the top and middle orders, with Carse at the forefront. All of this, though, barely seemed to affect Tilak Varma who showed another dimension to his game of anchoring the chase through. He stitched important partnerships with the lower order before taking India home in the last over.
