´I would rather win the treble´ – Pedri eyeing team success over Ballon d´Or

How big should we consider Juventus win against Al Ain

Barcelona midfielder Pedri said he is putting team trophies ahead of individual accolades this season as Ballon d’Or talk swirls around the Spaniard.

Pedri has been a key cog for Hansi Flick’s side this season, with Barcelona at the summit of the LaLiga standings and also in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

The Blaugrana are also eyeing Champions League glory after battling past Benfica to set up a quarter-final tie with Borussia Dortmund next month.

Barcelona are currently enjoying an 18-game unbeaten run across all competitions, and return to domestic action on Thursday against Osasuna in LaLiga.

The rescheduled fixture had been appealed to take place on a different day due to players from both teams away on international duty, but they were rejected.

Winning the Champions League has also played a huge role in deciding the winner of the Ballon d’Or in recent years, though Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior was snubbed last year for Manchester City’s Rodri, who won the Premier League and Euro 2024 with Spain.

But Pedri was not focused on football’s most prestigious individual prize, with the 22-year-old aiming to add to the three major titles he has already won with Barcelona.

“I would rather win the treble than the Ballon d’Or. If the Ballon d’Or comes, I want it to come alongside the collective titles,” he told local media on Monday.

“Being nominated is a dream, but winning trophies is more important to me. We are at a time where everything is at stake. You can lose three games and be out of the three titles.”

Should Barcelona make it past Dortmund in the Champions League, either Serie A leaders Inter or Bundesliga table toppers Bayern Munich await in the semi-finals.

Clasico rivals Real Madrid are on the opposite side of the draw, and face Arsenal in the quarter-finals with a potential final four clash against Paris Saint-Germain or Aston Villa up next should they progress.

Pedri said it was important for Barcelona to meet the challenges ahead and would look forward to a Champions League final against Madrid if they both made it.

“We must continue to enjoy these matches to get the best outcome,” he added.

“I would certainly welcome a Champions League final against Real Madrid – it would mean we made it. You can’t be afraid of any opponent.”
