Terence Crawford took offense to Canelo Alvarez pushing him during their face-off today, and he claims he’s going to make him “pay” on September 13th. Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) in their fight on Netflix at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Crawford gave Canelo no choice but to push him when he walked in close, telling him repeatedly that his four super middleweight titles would be coming home with him. He showed no respect for the proud Mexican superstar by not being polite and respectful to him.
Crawford’s Plan: Make Canelo Pay
“Canelo, you’re going to pay for that weak a** push. I got you. Remember I said this,” said Terence Crawford to Ring Magazine on X after Canelo Alvarez shoved him during their face-off today in New York.
Crawford’s lack of power will make it difficult to make Canelo “pay” for his shove of him. Of course, it’s doubtful that he’s even going to try to slug with Canelo.
Mayweather Blueprint Revisited
He’s likely to try to follow the Floyd Mayweather Jr. blueprint that he used to defeat Alvarez in 2013 by hitting and running all night. Terence knows that all he needs is a victory, even a boring one, and he’ll get another lucrative rematch of $50 million.
To make the ‘Face of Boxing’ Alvarez pay, Crawford will need to roll back the years and fight a lot better than he showed in his last fight against Israil Madrimov last August at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
That was a fighter who was landing at will on Crawford with right hands, and he got the better of him. Most fans would agree that the judges bailed Terence out that night by giving him a victory that he didn’t deserve. You could see today that Crawford is still touchy about his performance against Madrimov with the way he went after Max Kellerman when he mentioned the fight.
Canelo’s Pride Challenged
Canelo has a lot of pride. He didn’t like the way Crawford was talking to him, treating him the same way he’d done with lesser fighters who hadn’t accomplished near what he’s done.
Crawford hasn’t come close to achieving what Alvarez has. Although Bud has won four division titles and captured two undisputed championships, his opposition has been middle of the road.
