I feel like I’m a much more complete player now than a few years ago

Rory McIlroy couldn’t get the job done last night, but he made sure to put an end to this tournament today. Namely, Rory celebrated in the playoffs, defeating J.J. Spaun, thus winning the second Players Championship title. Rory McIlroy was the favorite before the final round, but moments like this carry pressure, so it was difficult to give predictions about what might happen.

Rory took a one-shot lead with a birdie on the 16th hole, then extended his lead by three shots when his opponent putted the ball in the water on the 17th hole, and later he three-putted for a triple bogey six, while McIlroy made a three-putt bogey.

The Northern Irish golfer is proud after such a victory, but at the same time a little sad for Spaun.

“I feel bad for JJ, you know that was you hit a really good shot he hit on 17, and it just went straight through the wind,” McIlroy said, as quoted by Irish Independent.

“I was lucky to do enough to get it done, but unbelievably proud and happy to win my second Player Championship. I think this the third time I’ve won on St Patrick’s Day. So it’s been a good luck charm for me.”

Rory McIlroy talks about his mentality

The 35-year-old is proud of himself and his mentality in difficult moments, considering that he is now a much better golfer than he was a few years ago. These kinds of statements are a huge optimism before the Masters, which starts in a few weeks.

“I have, I’ve worked really hard. I feel like I’m a way more complete player than I was a few years ago, even in conditions like this.”

“That little nine iron into 17, the little eight iron into the last there, you know, I said to Harry there, that little shot will take us a long way.

So I feel like you can play and all conditions and anything that comes my way, and really happy that was able to get it done.”- he concluded.

We have no doubt that this will give a wind at the back of an experienced golfer who is really impressing this year.
