I am hard on myself, yeah, but that’s also why I’m good

Viktor Hovland is not excelling this season on the PGA Tour, after four missed cuts in the last five tournaments. The Norwegian golfer experienced a huge drop in the OWGR list, but he is motivated to return to the top and convince the public again of the qualities he possesses. The 27-year-old golfer tries to change some things in his game, with the aim of progressing, but will he succeed in this?

The Valspar Championship turned out to be a completely different experience for him, as he carded rounds of 70 and 67 to move to 5-under par. After the second round of this competition, the Norwegian pointed out that he was not delighted with the performance in the previous tournaments, but he points out that every day is a new chance to improve things.

“Yeah, it s****,” Hovland told reporters, as quoted by Golf Magic.

“You have an ability that you can almost sometimes take for granted. You just wake up every day and you stand over the ball, and you just expect the ball to start in that direction and go that direction and end up somewhere close to the hole.”

Viktor Hovland shares his views

The 27-year-old admits that it is frustrating to face the same things day after day, considering that slightly worse performances lead a man to a dilemma regarding his qualities. However, Hovland admits that these are also humbling moments, given that you have the chance to learn something new.

“Then it starts to not do that, it’s pretty frustrating. You start thinking things you’ve never thought before, and this game becomes infinitely more challenging and it’s already really challenging.

So it is really humbling and, you know, kind of handling those moments, I mean, I think there’s a lot of lessons to be learned there, and now that hopefully I can regain my ability and see those shots again, hopefully I can be in a better spot where I can handle that situation better.”- he continued.

The Norwegian golfer has revealed that he is hard on himself, but that mindset is clearly bringing him great results. Hovland has no intention of changing his mindset or approach, believing he has the potential to return to the top.

“I am hard on myself, yeah, but that’s also why I’m good. If I wasn’t hard on myself I probably wouldn’t be out here.”
