BOSTON — Hunter Dobbins has talked with his father, Lance, about the seemingly invented backstory Lance created about being a Yankee draft pick and old friend of Andy Pettitte.
And as he prepares to face the Yankees for a second time on Saturday, this time at Fenway Park, the Red Sox rookie said he’s trying to move on.
“I know it’s a story, but I’m just here to throw the ball,” Dobbins told The Post Friday. “I’ve talked to him a little bit, but it doesn’t bug me enough to turn it into a big deal. I’m more concerned about the man he raised me to be than anything else.”
As for how the backstory came about, which was exposed when The Post’s Joel Sherman discovered that the elder Dobbins never played for the Yankees or any other affiliated minor league team, Dobbins said he wasn’t sure where it came from.
