Hey, have you heard the news about Geno Smith? He’s not a Seattle Seahawks quarterback anymore.
In the Friday news dump of all news dumps, the Seahawks traded Smith to Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders for a 2025 third-round pick, which is officially the No. 92 overall pick. Smith and the Seahawks couldn’t come to an agreement on a contract extension number, Geno reportedly requested a trade, and the rest is history. Geno reunites with Carroll, while Seattle has its eyes on Sam Darnold.
The world wide web is filled with takes upon takes upon takes. Here’s a collection of social media reactions across the board from Seahawks and Raiders fans, NFL fans, and even a few Seahawks players. Please, please, please do not take my hastily collected sample and draw any conclusions about how these fanbases at large feel one way or another.
Seattle Seahawks fans and reporters
We traded Geno to the raiders and didn’t even get Mayer I just realized that

Seahawks fans have not had to watch an actually bad team play since 2009. You’re not ready for this.

Speaking with a couple of current #Seahawks players, they are not happy about this news tonight.

I’m interested to see how the Geno Smith trade is sold to a fanbase that has been asked to improve home atmosphere, while consistently being sold a “championship” mindset.
This is the closest the #Seahawks have looked to a total rebuild since Pete Carroll entered Seattle.

I think John Schneider is bad at evaluating his own roster.
I think he is good at bringing in talent, but not good as roster construction.

The #Seahawks would be stuck in mediocrity if they extended Geno Smith
— Dirty Osprey (@Seahawk_NFL) March 8, 2025
People really don’t understand how bad the pass protection has been in Seattle over the last three years, and how much Geno Smith did to mitigate it.

Trading Geno Smith makes sense if you’re preparing to punt the 2025 season.
I do not think the #Seahawks think they are preparing to punt the 2025 season.

Alright Seahawks fans, Geno just got traded to Las Vegas for a 3rd round pick.
No QB currently at the helm, get ready to learn 4-6 win season pic.twitter.com/1vCu6mTTf4

For Geno fans who think the sky is now falling (kinda like DK fans have been thinking), just wait and see how it all plays out. The #Seahawks are making major moves on offense. I find it fascinating and fun. I think that is how everyone should look at it …

Las Vegas Raiders Fans
Geno getting a 40 million a year 3 year extension just doesn’t sit right with me
— Q (@RaidersAQ) March 8, 2025
Geno Smith is an actual stop gap QB that can play, but I know Raiders fans will say he’s complete trash and compare him to Minshew
— Von Cornelius (@von1o1) March 8, 2025
A lot of Insiders/Reporters saying the Raiders got substantially better
But all the Derek Carr fanboys saying we got worse and that we should have just brought him back….
Shocker pic.twitter.com/TVfrAUNbHD

over pay trade wise and overpay $ wise, all around L
— Raiders enthusiast (@Locked_Wrld) March 8, 2025
Geno Smith is the QB Raiders fans wanted Derek Carr to be after 2016. Geno is not going to throw a 2 yard flat on 3rd and 10.

Some Raiders fans sniffing at a very serviceable Geno as if we have an actual quarterback room, Gardner Minshew and Jimmy Garoppolo weren’t our last two starters, and we have a ton of instant options. Who are you people?

NFL community
geno smith is a very good NFL quarterback. i’ve said it before, but i don’t think the average fan understands how hard it is to find an above average starter at any position. let alone at quarterback.

I just told everyone at the bar about the Geno Smith trade like 2 mins before it happened and now they’re all treating me like I’m from another planet lmao
— lindsey ok (@lindseyyok) March 8, 2025
The past like 30 mins have shown me that this app is disgustingly low on Geno Smith lol

Geno Smith 2022-24: 10th in dropback success rate.
Like the move by Raiders – set floor with competent vet without giving up big resources, buy time, try to find long-term answer.
They’ve made the playoffs twice in 20 years. OK to chase competitiveness before chasing Super Bowl

love seattle’s ability to self assess themselves and realize they need a reset on offense. geno smith is a good quarterback but couldn’t overcome the poor offensive line play. trading him (and possibly DK) to get the resources to upgrade their offensive line and build around JSN…

Seahawks players (past and present)
Lmao crazy.

I really shouldn’t be asking you how you all feel about the Geno Smith trade in the comments because:
A.) You’re going to do it unprompted anyway;
and
B.) You’ve probably already done it in the original article announcing the trade.
This is just to add to the conversation pieces! Thank you for your patronage and your clicks.
