Former England international Jamie Vardy could soon become the latest European star to make the move to MLS. Following the relegation of his current side, Leicester City, whose disastrous return to the English top-tier lasted just one underwhelming season, the 38-year-old has been linked with the U.S.

Vardy, who first joined the Foxes in 2012 from Fleetwood Town for just over $1 million, has gone on to cement his status as a club legend in the 13 years since. Third all-time in both appearances and goals for Leicester, he was pivotal in its historic Premier League title win in 2016 under Claudio Ranieri, for which he was named the league’s Player of the Season.

However, while he remains the club captain and a regular starter under current head coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy, like the rest of his teammates, Vardy has found the back of the net increasingly hard to come by, scoring just eight goals in 32 games this season.

MLS clubs interested

Now, with Leicester heading back to the Championship – where they could yet be joined by Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham – and Vardy’s contract set to expire in the summer, The Sun has reported that clubs in the U.S. are interested in the 2021 FA Cup winner.

The clubs in question remain unclear, but as for Vardy, he is said to be planning to make a final decision on his future “in the coming weeks.” This decision could be swayed depending on whether or not Leicester moves forward with Van Nistelrooy, who has guided his side to a 3-2-17 record since taking over in November, after a brief stint as Manchester United’s interim head coach.

Should Vardy decide it’s time for a fresh start, he supposedly would not move to another English team, potentially leaving the door open for a move to the U.S.

Vardy’s next opportunity to sign for an MLS side would come when their summer transfer window opens on July 24 – although Miami and the Seattle Sounders could theoretically move for the former Premier League Golden Boot winner as early as June 1, with a 10-day window set to open up for FIFA Club World Cup participants.

Vardy apologizes to fans

This comes just days after Vardy took to social media to apologize to Leicester’s fans for what he described as “a s— show” ending to its season. “At this point, I don’t even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses,” he wrote.

“To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s— show.”
