Hamzah Sheeraz has largely moved through his professional career untroubled thus far, scoring impressive wins against Austin Williams and Tyler Denny before his disappointing split draw against Carlos Adames last time out. Following the draw in Riyadh, Sheeraz has made some changes and sat down with Louis Hart from The Ring Magazine to discuss changing weight and trainer.

Hamzah Sheeraz Talks Moving to Super Middleweight

New Trainer Andy Lee

Discussing his struggles at making weight for his fight against Carlos Adames: “I don’t want to use it as an excuse. It was hard, just put it that way, it was hard,” said Sheeraz.

He added with a smile: “168 here we come, man. A few poor pies and that’s it. I’ll be alright.”

When asked about the depth of talent at super middleweight: “We’re in an era of boxing where the best fight the best, and you put it all on the line so let’s go, man.”

Sheeraz was then asked about potentially facing Edgar Berlanga after Eddie Hearn recently floated that fight for a Queensberry vs Matchroom 5v5 in an interview with iFLTV: “If that’s a fight they want, send me the contract and I’ll sign it.”

Hamzah Sheeraz Talks Making The Right Move

Hamzah Sheeraz then explained why he’s moving to Andy Lee from Ricky Funez: “I’m someone who always needs new ideas, who needs to keep the mind working, keep the mind ticking. I need to always break new ceilings, enter new rooms and I feel like Andy can (help me) do that.”

“He’s a very very respectful man. Very well respected as well. Been a world champion. Experienced. He has a very calming aura about him as well.

“And I believe that this is the right move for me. My team believe that as well. We’re all in agreement and I’m looking forward to going out to Dublin and train with him.”
