Erling Haaland may have signed a 10-year contract with Manchester City earlier this year, but that hasn’t stopped speculation about a future move to La Liga giants Barcelona or Real Madrid. The buzz around the Norwegian striker continues to grow, especially after recent comments made by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who told Marca that “nothing is impossible” when asked about the club’s interest in Haaland — despite the Catalan side’s well-documented financial troubles.
Laporta’s comment reignited debate across Spain and England, with many wondering if one of the world’s top strikers could eventually be lured to La Liga. But while the rumors swirl, Haaland himself appears unfazed and fully committed to his current club’s objectives.
In the middle of Manchester City’s campaign at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Haaland is staying focused. Speaking to Marca, his father, Alfie Haaland, confirmed that his son is enjoying his time in England.
“He’s happy. Right now, he’s focused on the Club World Cup and… yes, he’s happy,” said the former Norwegian international.
Alfie also believes that Manchester City is well-positioned to win the tournament:“I think they’re the favorites to win this tournament. We’ve seen some really competitive matches, but yes, I think they’re among the top contenders. My son is very happy at Manchester City — very happy.”
Haaland focused on Club World Cup despite transfer rumors
Under the leadership of Pep Guardiola, City has already claimed several domestic and international trophies in recent years. Now, the Club World Cup represents another piece of silverware that the club is determined to add to its growing collection.
Manchester City is set to face Al Ain this Monday in their second group stage match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. A win would position them well for a spot in the knockout phase. Haaland is expected to start and play a key role, as usual.

Whether or not a blockbuster transfer happens in the future, one thing is clear — the Norwegian star isn’t letting the distractions affect his mission in the present.
