VETERANS AC 5-MILE CHAMPIONSHIPS, Battersea Park, London, May 13

On a hot evening, M45 Ade Russell won the overall men’s race as just nine seconds covered the top four, Steve Smythe reports.

There were some notable performances in the older age groups as Peter Giles went third all-time in the UK M80 rankings with 38:55.

World Masters M75 10km champion Ron Cattle went top of this year’s UK rankings with a time of 34:55.

Bryony Proctor was the clear overall women’s winner in a time of 29:42 and though she was using the event as a tempo run, her time went top of the UK W35 rankings for 2025.

Proctor though was running as a guest so the overall Championships women’s winner was W60 Clare Elms who had incidentally outsprinted Proctor to win senior gold in the 2011 Kent cross country championships.

Elms went top of this year’s UK rankings in her age group with her 31:34 while Anna Garnier went top of the W70 lists courtesy of her 38:15.
