Giants showing interest in Matthew Stafford, also inquired in 2024

Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers ‘pretty sure’ this will be final season

The Los Angeles Rams have given quarterback Matthew Stafford permission to speak with other teams and the contact has already begun.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reports that the New York Giants are among a handful of teams that have shown early interest.

The teams you’d suspect would have their hat in the ring have, indeed, thrown their hats in the ring. The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders and others have shown interest.

The Giants have been heavily rumored to have interest in Stafford and many AI chatbots believe he will likely be their Week 1 starter in 2025.

It’s also not the first time the Giants have inquired about Stafford.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that the Giants reached out to the Rams last year ahead of the trading deadline.

The Rams are trying to find a financial compromise with Stafford, who is scheduled to make $27 million this season, and retain his services. If that doesn’t happen, a trade to the Giants could become a possibility. The Giants at least inquired about Stafford’s availability last season around the trade deadline, a source told ESPN.

It’s clear the Giants have their sights set on Stafford but cost is going to be the key. Some early speculation suggests the Rams may ask for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft to start, which might be a hill too high for general manager Joe Schoen.
