Former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira began a new community project by purchasing groceries for people in need in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Sao Paulo native, Pereira posted a video to his YouTube channel visiting grocery stores and purchasing food and other essentials for impoverished people.
“Today we are going to the grocery store to bless some families lives,” Pereira said at the beginning of the video.
“I’m emotional,” said a female recipient of Pereira’s generosity. “These type of the people that the world needs.”
“We are doing food donations. To the families who need it, take these people out of the struggle for a bit,” Pereira said. “I always say this is a little of what they need, but I think I’m doing something and motivating people. I will be filming everything for you guys.”
As part of the project, Pereira purchased a building in his childhood neighborhood dedicated to teaching skills to kids, including an English speaking classroom, and a gym.
“A lot of people there who are older, have kids. We are doing what we can,” Pereira said. “It’s by myself, don’t have no one’s help. No government. No politics. It’s from my pockets. I like to do this. I feel good doing this. I do this for me.”
