Former ATP ace takes surprising shot at Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz’s inconsistency is one of the main topics of discussion among fans and insiders. The former world number 1 possesses a talent that has few equals in the history of tennis and is certainly destined to become one of the best players ever, but he must necessarily file some details, otherwise he risks winning less than everyone expects from him.

At just 21 years old, the Spanish champion has already won numerous prestigious titles (four Majors and five Masters 1000) and has been at the top of the ATP ranking for 36 weeks. However, Jannik Sinner’s level and consistency over the past year have increased the pressure on Carlitos’ shoulders as he has struggled to keep up with his top rival’s pace.

It is no coincidence that Alcaraz still occupies the third position in the ATP ranking and is very far from the Italian ace, despite the fact that the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria played only one tournament in 2025 before being suspended for three months (after the agreement with WADA).

Escudé opens up on Carlitos

The 4-time Grand Slam champion had to admit that the pressure has killed him in the recent period, but added that he is not worried and knows how to improve as the season continues.

In recent weeks – particularly after Carlos’ shocking loss to David Goffin in Miami – some analysts have questioned the future of Alcaraz’s relationship with Juan Carlos Ferrero. According to several experts, Ferrero is no longer able to affect Carlitos’ mind and a change may be necessary for the former world number 1 to shine again.

Interviewed by ‘L’Equipe’ these days, former French ace Nicolas Escudé confided that the young Spaniard still has a lot to grow from the point of view of attitude: “He looks like a junior at times, he does anything on the court for better or for worse.

It gives me the feeling of being too free in some moments and playing random shots, without thinking well about what is the best solution to adopt.”
