The seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s experience in red continues. After completing his first laps at Fiorano on January 22, Ferrari moved to Spain for further testing. It was in Barcelona that Lewis Hamilton suffered his first major crash with the SF-23, requiring a more in-depth analysis.

While driver #44 emerged unscathed from the impact, the car sustained significant damage to its aerodynamics and suspension. According to Sky Sport Italia, to properly assess the damage, particularly concerning the chassis, Ferrari deemed it necessary to call in a composite materials specialist directly from Maranello.

The long wait times prevented Leclerc from completing his scheduled afternoon program. After careful analysis, it appears that the crash resulted from a driver error, possibly caused by a small track irregularity.

As for the car, it was cleared for use on the third and final day of testing, when Antonio Giovinazzi and Dino Beganovic took to the track. At this point, it won’t be long before the British driver is back behind the wheel of the Ferrari.

On February 4 and 5, Ferrari will return to Barcelona with the SF-24 to test Pirelli’s 2026 tires. The Italian team will have good company: alongside Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will also be on track.
