Facing the temptation to compete with Messi in the MLS, Griezmann defines his future for next season

The cloudy future of Antoine Griezmann at Atlético de Madrid, apparently, tends to clear. The French striker, a prominent piece in Diego Simeone’s scheme, has decided to reinforce his commitment to the “Colchonero” (Mattress Maker), putting an end to the speculations about his possible departure in the middle of this 2025.

The attacker who had his time at Barcelona maintains a contract with the Madrid team until 2026. However, not only did he resolve to stay – in the face of rumors that linked him with Los Angeles FC of Major League Soccer of the United States – but, even, there would be the possibility that he would extend his link for one more season. That is to say, until the European summer of 2027.

Despite a slight decrease in his performance during the present campaign (for which some whistles were heard last Monday, April 14 vs. Real Valladolid), Diego Simeone, who played an important role in the negotiations, considers Antoine Griezmann a fundamental player, both on the field and within the squad that he commands since 2012.

In that same line, “El Cholo” (The Dude), according to a report from the portal Relevo, requested the board of directors of Atlético de Madrid to make an effort to retain the Frenchman for a while longer. In addition, for his part, the 34-year-old soccer player is willing to reduce his salary to facilitate the extension of the bond with the club of the Spanish capital.

Rumors of Griezmann’s move to MLS would end

For weeks, the rumor has been circulating through the corridors of the Metropolitano Stadium that Los Angeles FC of MLS is thinking of Antoine Griezmann for the second part of the season, which generated uncertainty in Atlético de Madrid about his future. In theory, conversations between the parties came to be given, but the French player finally opted to continue in the “Colchonero” (Mattress Maker).

Atlético de Madrid also thinks about reinforcements

In the offices of the “Rojiblanca” (Red and White) institution, before the disappointments in the Champions League and in the Copa del Rey and waiting to finish as high as possible in the standings of the championship of the first division, already plans the next season with Antoine Griezmann and Julián Álvarez as the voices of command within the locker room.

But for the results to arrive they must add alternatives. That is why, in the first term, Atleti seeks to reinforce the defense, with a central defender. In that sense, “Cuti” Romero appears as the main objective. However, difficult negotiations are anticipated with Tottenham, who considers the Argentine a key player.

In addition, before the possible departure of César Azpilicueta, Enrique Cerezo, president of the club, contemplates the incorporation of another central defender and a left back.
