Ex-New York Giants QB lands on The Athletic’s ‘NFL 50 under 40’ list

Eagles claim 2024 draft pick off waivers from Jaguars [UPDATE]

Could Allen Lazard request to stay with Jets?

Who are some of the “rising coaches, executives, personalities, and other personnel who significantly impact the NFL and will continue to do so in the coming decades?”

That was a question recently posed by The Athletic and one they sought to answer. What they settled on was a list of the top 50 NFL difference-makers under the age of 40 who will shape the league for the foreseeable future.

Zero current members of the New York Giants made the cut. However, there was one notable ex-Giant who appeared on the list: Quarterbacks coach Davis Webb.

In a season all about the development of high-profile rookie quarterbacks, Bo Nix’s steady growth in Denver wasn’t just a product of Sean Payton’s scheme. Webb, a former Texas high school quarterback who played at Texas Tech and Cal and then for a brief stint in the NFL, was handpicked by Payton to work with Nix/an incoming young quarterback as the team considered its options post-Russell Wilson. Webb was among those whose opinions Payton leaned on when deciding to draft Nix, the head coach said in June.

Currently with the Denver Broncos, Webb began his career as a third-round pick of the Giants in the 2017 NFL draft. It became immediately apparent that he would serve as a quality backup and eventually an assistant coach.

Those expectations proved accurate when he took the Broncos job in 2023, just one month removed from the end of his playing career.

In addition to the Giants, Webb also suited up for the New York Jets (2018) and Buffalo Bills (2019-2021). He had a second stint with the Giants in 2022.

Although he spent six seasons in the NFL, Webb only appeared in two games with one start (which came with the Giants). He completed 23 of his 40 pass attempts for 168 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 41 yards and an additional score.

Fans might remember that game because Webb threw a touchdown pass to Kenny Golladay, which was the only score of his short-lived Giants career.
