Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts – from around the world from the past week.

The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” comprises two recaps. In Argentina, a unified champion successfully defended her world titles. Over in México, a reigning light flyweight champion retained her belt.

Title Fights From Around the World: Evelin Bermúdez and Lourdes Juárez Victorious

Evelin Bermúdez vs. Tenkai Tsunami

Evelin Bermúdez (21-1-1, 7 KOs) remains a unified champion following a unanimous decision win over Tenkai Tsunami (32-14-1, 19 KOs).

Scores for their bout were 99-91 (x2) and 96-94. With the victory, Bermúdez remains the IBF and WBO light flyweight champion. She won both titles in March 2023 against Tania Enriquez via unanimous decision when they were both vacant at the time. The fight headlined an OR Promotions card at the Polideportivo Hector Gallucci in San Lorenzo, Argentina. Boxing fans in the country could catch the action live on TyC Sports.

Bermúdez began the bout at a quick pace. She was the busier of the two and it allowed her to outwork her opponent.Tsunami had her moments, but she struggled with the volume of punches that were coming her way. As Bermúdez slowed down in the later rounds, the challenger began to have more success. However, it was too late as the reigning champion’swork in the prior rounds had given her a comfortable lead. In the end, that work rate allowed Bermúdez to win a comfortable unanimous decision.

Lourdes Juárez vs. Mirna Sánchez

Note: This fight is currently not listed on BoxRec. However, the WBC, whose world title was at stake, have written aboutthis being a championship fight. Due to a lack of coverage of this contest, this recap will have some gaps. Big Fight Weekend will update this recap once more information becomes available.

Lourdes Juárez (38-4, 5 KOs, 1 NC) remains a light flyweight champion with a ninth-round technical knockout of Mirna Sánchez (8-2-1, 2 KOs).

The bout was officially stopped around the beginning of round nine. With the victory, Juárez retains her WBC light flyweight world title. She won the belt in November last year with a unanimous decision win over Yesenia Gomez.Juárez-Sánchez headlined a Latin KO card at the Centro de Desarrollo Comunitario in Tequisquiapan, México. Boxing fans in the country could catch the action live on TUDN.

For the most part, it was Juárez who was dominating. The reigning had little trouble putting together combinations for the duration of the bout. Sánchez threw power punches from a distance but struggled to get within range to land them. With the challenger taking significant damage, she was withdrawn from the contest early in round nine, giving Juárez the technical knockout victory.
