The UK grudge match between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn has sold out with three days to spare.
World Boxing News can report that ticket prices dropped for the event, which will see the sons of two boxing legends battle it out at middleweight.
The cost of purchasing a seat for the event contributed to an expected 65,000 attendees on Saturday night. As WBN reported, prices were down at least 25 percent in some sections of Tottenham’s Premier League home, and Premium Hospitality packages also fell.
Rivals Eubank Jr. and Benn were initially scheduled to fight in October 2022. However, the results of a positive drug test, which were not initially going to see the light of day, were leaked.
They revealed that Benn had twice tested positive for clomiphene during training camp. Despite the adverse findings, Eubank Jr. had initially accepted the fight, and fans would have been none the wiser had the leak not occurred.
In the end, the event was canceled as an investigation was opened. Despite the ongoing probe, the British Boxing Board of Control took two years to suspend Benn, who continued fighting in the United States.
BBBofC officials suspended Benn temporarily before reinstating the Londoner to face Eubank Jr. on April 26. Eubank then splattered an egg on the side of Benn’s face at the press conference to represent the WBC’s view that Benn has overconsumed the protein, causing the elevated clomiphene levels
Benn moves up two weight classes for the main event to Junior’s limit for the 160-pound contest when they trade blows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn predicted the ‘epic showdown’ Eubank Jr. vs. Benn would be the UK’s biggest fight. However, sales would have disappointed the Essex man who was involved in Anthony Joshua’s events, which sold out in hours.
Former world champion and Hall of Famer Chris Eubank Sr. is not expected to attend. Eubank has stepped away from his son following an incident involving eggs at the press conference.
Nigel Benn, father of Conor, will be there in England’s capital. DAZN will broadcast the Eubank vs. Benn fight worldwide via pay-per-view.
The news comes after the release of the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn trailer, produced by budding filmmaker and Ring Magazine owner Turki Alalshikh.
Saudi Arabian matchmaker Alalshikh also produced the trailers for boxing events ‘Knockout Chaos‘ and ‘Day of Reckoning,’ both of which have been added to his IMDB credits.
Despite their father’s rivalry, Eubank Jr. vs. Benn tickets remain available for purchase on resale sites at a lower price than when they were first listed.
Liam Smith vs. Aaron McKenna, Anthony Yarde vs. Lyndon Arthur, Chris Billam-Smith vs. Brandon Glanton, and Cheavon Clarke vs. Viddal Riley in undercard bouts.
