Emma Raducanu tells why some wins now mean more than ones from 2021 US Open

Alcaraz vs Sinner, Wimbledon Final, By the Numbers

Emma Raducanu issued quite a statement after her big Miami Open triumph against Emma Navarro, revealing she values some of her current wins more than the ones that landed her historic 2021 US Open title.

The world No. 60, who picked up a couple of disappointing defeats in early 2025 before also enduring a traumatic experience with a stalker, ended victorious in a Miami second-round marathon, edging out the eighth-seeded American 7-6 (6) 2-6 7-6 (3). The match finished after two hours and 53 minutes and also marked the 22-year-old’s third top-10 win.

And the win itself isn’t the only thing that made Raducanu thrilled – it’s the way she clinched it. With Navarro leading 6-5 in the third set and with a chance to serve out for the match, the Briton kept her composure – got the break back – then dominated the third-set tie-break to seal the win.

Raducanu says the Navarro win means more than some of her 2021 US Open victories

“It was a lot of emotions when I won. I know I won the US Open, but I think having been through so much in the last few years, it’s like the wins now mean so much more,” the world No. 60 stated.

“Not necessarily more in terms of magnitude, but I would say emotionally, just a lot more aware of all of the suffering as well, because when I won the US Open, I just won 10 matches in straight sets. I didn’t have, like, the losses, the downs, the months of, like, losing streaks.

“I think to come out of it now, it does, yeah, I’d say it means a lot more than certain matches at the US Open.”

In the Miami third round, Raducanu will have another tough test as she faces world No. 48 McCartney Kessler, who became a WTA champion in Hobart in January before also finishing as runner-up in Austin last week. If the Briton beats the American, she will register three consecutive wins for the first time this year.
