No end in sight to Bengals’ two contract standoffs

When/how will Shemar Stewart’s impasse with the Bengals end?

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

NFL’s unluckiest players: Diving into best ‘bad luck’ stats of 2024 in honor of Friday the 13th – NFL.comSAQUON BARKLEY: The Eagles RB put up 2,000 rushing yards and earned AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors, but his stat line could have been even more outlandish. Barkley set a career-high with 13 rush touchdowns but was also tackled a league-high 11 times on the opponent’s 1-yard line in 2024. Those 11 plays occurred over nine drives (two instances of being tackled twice at the 1-yard line in the same drive) and resulted in seven Jalen Hurts rush TDs, one Hurts pass TD and one field goal. The most any other player got tackled on the 1-yard line last season was eight. Five players tied for that mark: the Cardinals’ James Conner, Panthers’ Chuba Hubbard, Lions’ David Montgomery, Buccaneers’ Bucky Irving and Commanders’ Brian Robinson.

5 questions and answers about Avery Williams – BGN1 – Can you recap his time with the Falcons? Avery Williams had quite the career with Atlanta. He started out as a returner and cornerback, appearing in 15 games and making one start in his rookie season and piling up a couple of fumble recoveries, a pass deflection, and three quarterback hits. The team then switched him to running back, and in 2022 he had 22 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown, as well as a career-best and league-best 16.2 yards per punt return. Unfortunately, a torn ACL in June 2023 cost him the entire season, and Williams didn’t look quite as explosive as a returner in 2024. He still averaged a solid 9.3 yards per punt and 27.2 yards per kick, but he had no touches on offense last season. The Falcons looked at his declining role and production as a punt returner and apparently didn’t view him as a priority re-signing.

Mailbag: Who are some off-the-radar Eagles players who could contribute in 2025? – PhillyVoiceSecondly, I’m going to volunteer Ben VanSumeren. I’m currently working on a big article that requires me to watch every offensive snap during the 2024 season, and it’s hard not to notice how good VanSumeren was in his fullback role last year. I think the Eagles are going to try to find ways for him to contribute more in 2025. (I’ll have a review of his 2024 season soon.)

Why Lane Johnson believes he can be better than ever at 35 years old – NBCSPHe turned 35 about a month ago. He’s going into his 13th NFL season. He projects as the oldest starting offensive tackle in the league in 2025. And he’ll be the 2nd-oldest offensive tackle in Eagles history, behind former teammate Jason Peters. And Lane Johnson believes he just may be better than ever. “Now, I feel like even though I’m 35, I feel better than I was when I started (or when I was) 29 or 30,” Johnson said after a recent OTA practice. “I had the (ankle) surgeries and so for me the toughest year was ’21 and you can go back and watch it, you can clearly see on film, I was very hindered with my left foot. “And now, I feel like I’m getting close to maybe my peak. As weird as it is to say, but that’s truly how I feel. Maybe they need to do a Combine for guys 10 years (in the league), see how we do compared to 10 years ago.” The notion of any other player getting close to his peak at 35 would be absurd. But when Johnson says it, you believe him.

2025 Offensive Line Rankings – FTN Fantasy1. Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia returns four starters from 2024’s best offensive line in football. That group allowed a combined 10 sacks and 76 pressures. The Eagles need to replace their right guard after letting Mekhi Becton walk in free agency and will likely have a competition between Tyler Steen and Kenyon Green to fill the void. The Eagles added two experienced veterans to the group as depth (Kendall Lamm and Matt Pryor) and drafted three developmental rookies on the final day of the draft (Drew Kendall, Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams). If Jordan Mailata (95.8 PFF grade) and Lane Johnson (10 pressures on 451 passing plays) are around, this unit will remain the gold standard of the NFL. [BLG Note: The Washington Commanders are 18th, the New York Giants are 25th, and the Dallas Cowboys are 29th.]

Are Eagles primed for blockbuster trade? NFL insider says it’s ‘not practical’ – NJ.comAppearing on 97.5 The Fanatic’s “Kincade and Salciunas” on Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said the likelihood of Hendrickson wearing an Eagles uniform was slim to none. “I would say no,” Schefter said. “I don’t think that’s practical. Sometimes you find opportunities that surface and you’re like ‘let’s squeeze here and if we squeeze there, we get this done.’ Knowing what I know from the past conversations with various people at various points in the offseason, I would say, no, I don’t see something like that happening.”

Rookie Q&A: 3 questions with Antwaun Powell-Ryland – PE.com1. You’re an Eagle now. What does that mean to you? Powell-Ryland: “It means that I have a chance to fulfill a dream, and that is to play and be a great player in the NFL. It means I’m here to work and any job they give me, whether it’s rushing the passer, going out there and covering kickoffs, or making a tackle on punts, that’s what I’m here to do. I’m with a great team, a great organization, and it’s a battle every day against the best of the game. I love that challenge. That’s what I’ve always wanted to do, so this is my chance and I’m going to make the most of it.”

For years, Doug Pederson had to miss most of his son’s games. Now he’s ‘being a dad’ full-time watching him play in the UFL. – InquirerTheir conversations aren’t always about X’s and O’s. Like his son, Doug went undrafted in 1991. And like his son, he bounced around practice squads and different leagues — including the World League of American Football (WLAF) — before he made his NFL debut in 1993. It’s allowed him to relate to Josh’s journey in a way few others could. “Josh is going down that same path,” Pederson said. “And I just told him … don’t ever lose that hope. Don’t ever lose that dream of making it to the NFL, because you never know. Injury is a part of our game and part of the sport, and it can open up an opportunity that you may not expect.“ And so we do talk about that. We have had those conversations. Just to encourage him to stay the course, keep your head down. I think it’s a great opportunity for a lot of these players to play in the UFL. They’re young players who need valuable reps.”

40 rookies are unsigned, and 30 of them are second-round picks – PFTSeven weeks after the 2025 NFL draft began, most of the 257 draft picks have agreed to terms. As of Wednesday, 217 of the selections had signed their four-year rookie deals. Of the 40 unsigned players, 30 were taken in round two. The problem there comes from the fact that the first two players taken in the round receive fully-guaranteed contracts — an unprecedented development. It remains to be seen how deep into the round the full guarantees will go, which has kept any of the remaining second-rounders from signing. [BLG Note: Something to keep an eye on as it relates to Eagles rookie safety Andrew Mukuba, who was the last pick in the second round.]

Pictures, videos, news, and notes from the Washington Commanders Mandatory Minicamp Day 3 – Hogs HavenThe Washington Commanders are in Ashburn, VA for the third, and final, day of this year’s mandatory minicamp. This will be the last time the entire team and coaching staff are together until the start of training camp next month. Noah Brown was carted off the field yesterday, but head coach Dan Quinn didn’t provide any updates on the nature and severity of the injury. Michael Gallup has been dealing with a hamstring strain and rookie WR Jaylin Lane joined him on the side field today before heading inside during practice. Sam Cosmi is rehabbing a torn ACL from the playoffs in January, and he was here my some work in outside today.

The Cowboys offensive additions could mean big things for Dak Prescott and the passing game – Blogging The BoysAnd many of those great things will come from the dynamic receiving duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. The Cowboys traded a third-round pick for Pickens, and he is expected to boost the team’s passing game. On the first day of minicamp, the Prescott/Pickens chemistry was already showing as they connected several times, including a deep shot down the sideline. When you look at Prescott’s big seasons above, you’ll find quality WR2s on the roster like Amari Cooper, a healthy Michael Gallup, and a healthy Brandin Cooks. But it doesn’t stop there. The team also had contributing WR3s in those seasons. Players like Randall Cobb and Cedrick Wilson Jr. add to the mix. The Cowboys have a slew of WR3 candidates on their roster. Whether it’s Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, or KaVontae Turpin, this offense will have weapons. And it doesn’t have to be one of those guys. It could be different ones taking turns from week to week. The point is, a healthy Prescott with good protection should make this a very potent unit. Obviously, the proof is in the pudding, but it’s hard not to get excited about what this offense can do. Between better talent and better coaching, the Cowboys could end up surprising some people, and who doesn’t like surprises!

Malik Nabers still not practicing fully for Giants – Big Blue ViewThe toe injury is reportedly one that Nabers has dealt with dating back to his college career at LSU. “Nothing serious, but we’re being smart with him in terms of the rehab part of it,” Daboll said at the beginning or OTAs in regards to Nabers’ toe. “He’s had it for a while, back in college, too, so just trying to be smart.”

Antonio Brown to be arrested for attempted murder in Miami – SB NationMiami-Dade police are looking for former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown after an arrest warrant was issued on Thursday night for attempted murder. The warrant stems from a shooting at a celebrity boxing event in Miami in May in which Brown originally said he was the victim of an attempted robbery and released, though new evidence appeared to show Brown was the aggressor in the altercation. Police attempted to serve Brown with the warrant on Thursday but were unable to locate him. It calls for the former receiver to post a $10,000 bond and be placed under house arrest pending trial, indicating that the courts view Brown as a potential flight risk.

Vox Media Union Reach Tentative Agreement on New Contract – WGAEWriters Guild of America East (WGAE) members at Vox Media reached a tentative agreement with management on a new three-year collective bargaining agreement. The 250-member Vox Media Union and the WGAE Council’s Online Media sector representatives will vote to ratify the contract in the coming days. Full details of the agreement will be released upon ratification. The Vox Media Union had voted to authorize a strike if a deal was not reached by the time their current contract expired at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, on June 12, 2025. As a deal has now been reached, there will not be any pickets outside Vox Media’s office in New York. [BLG Note: Strike averted!]
