A Sellable Thing. An in-depth account of an historic fight

Fireworks are expected in Anaheim as Oscar Duarte and Miguel Madueño square off this Saturday, February 15, with the WBA Continental Americas Super Lightweight Title on the line. The all-Mexican showdown will headline a stacked Golden Boy Promotions card at the Honda Center, featuring rising talents, including standout Darius Fulghum.

Duarte Looks for Redemption

This marks Duarte’s second shot at WBA gold. In 2023, he stepped up against Ryan García for the WBA Gold Lightweight Title but fell short, suffering a knockout loss in Houston. Now, the Chihuahua-born puncher (28-2-1, 22 KOs) is determined to bounce back and claim his first WBA belt. Duarte currently holds the No. 9 spot in the WBA’s super lightweight rankings and knows a statement win could propel him into the title conversation.

Madueño Aims to Reignite His Momentum

On the other side, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño enters with the chance to capture his second WBA title. Last year, he edged out Justin Pauldo via split decision to claim the WBA Continental North America Lightweight Title. However, his momentum was halted in July when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to the highly regarded Keyshawn Davis. Now, after an eight-month layoff, the Sinaloa native (30-2, 28 KOs) sees this fight as the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

A Knockout in the Making?

Both fighters bring serious power to the ring. Duarte has finished nearly 80% of his wins by knockout, while Madueño boasts an incredible 93% KO ratio, with 28 stoppages in 30 victories. However, Madueño has hit a rough patch, dropping three of his last seven fights.

With two Mexican warriors known for their heavy hands, this main event is shaping up to be an all-out war—and don’t be surprised if it ends before the final bell.
