Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill says he wanted to “knock out” HC Mike McDaniel

Jets defense still rife with question marks after disastrous season

Last week, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and star wide receiver Tyreek Hill said all the right things. Hill admitted to messing up and said he was doing everything he could to change his reputation. But behind the scenes, it appears that Miaim’s WR1 may not have learned a damn thing.

In a recent interview with YouTube personality Aidan Ross (Look him up), Tyreek Hill went on a profanity-driven rant about Bills Mafia. Buffalo Rumblings was upset about that, but what irked me even more was the video I saw when I opened up Instagram on Friday Morning.

The video, originally posted by FootballForever on Instagram, appears to be clipped from the same interview with Ross. In the video, Hill admits that there was a time when he wanted to ‘knock out’ coach Mike McDaniel for not seeing enough targets in a game.

“Nah, Bro. I remember one game I wanted to knock out Coach McDaniel,” Hill said. When asked why, Miami’s problematic receiver did not mince his words: “because he wasn’t throwing me the ball, man.”

Whether or not there’s more to the clip, I’ll never know. I’m not going to go out of my way to watch anything these two do together. However, the fact that this thing was front and center when I first logged onto the app has me thinking it was fate. And what better way to report fate than on The Phinsider dot com?

Most alarming, whether he was serious or not, is the fact that he admits to getting upset at times when not being the focal point of the offense. As I wrote a few days ago, Hill has his eyes set on 2k yards this season. What happens if he doesn’t get the right number of targets throughout a game? We’ve already seen him quit on the team in a Week 18 loss to the New York Jets. Where is the line with Tyreek? Not to mention, Miami’s offense needs to continue to blossom, and making Hill the focal point, like they admitted to doing in 2022 and 2023, might not be what’s best for the team.

Nothing will likely come of Hill’s comments. The Dolphins appear set on having Hill around in 2026 with the option to move on after the season. And with so much uncertainty surrounding the futures of general manager Chris Grier and HC McDaniel, moving on from your top offensive weapon (I still think it’s Achane) isn’t what’s best for business. And even if they wanted to move on from Hill and would grant him his wish that he proclaimed at the end of last season when he said he wanted out of Miami, who would want him?

With each passing day, it becomes more clear that Tyreek Hill is a ticking time bomb. The Dolphins just have to hope he waits until after the season to detonate — otherwise, Coach McDaniel could see his NFL head coaching career come to an end, just as quickly as it started.

What are your thoughts on Tyreek Hill’s comments about wanting to “knock out” coach McDaniel for not getting enough targets in a game? Do you think Hill becomes an issue as the season progresses? Or do you think he regains focus and becomes the elite wide receiver he once was? Let us know in the comments section below!
