After a disappointing 2024 campaign, the noise surrounding the Miami Dolphins this offseason has not been pleasant. Plenty of media members, opposing fanbases and even fans of the Dolphins themselves seem down on the franchise as the team progresses towards the 2025 NFL season.
Can you blame them?
After making the NFL Playoffs in each of Mike McDaniel’s first two seasons as the team’s head coach, the Dolphins missed the postseason in 2024 after finishing the year with an 8-9 record. Tyreek Hill’s production plummeted — finishing with less than 1,000 yards receiving for the first time since his 2019 season (a season in which he only played in 12 games). Tua Tagovailoa continued his troubling trend of missing games — sitting for a total of 6 contests in 2024 due to concussion issues and a mysterious hip injury towards the end of the year. On top of that, offseason spats with cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith could lead to both star players playing elsewhere in 2025.
All in all, recent times have been turbulent in South Florida, but as the team is constructed today, would you consider them a bottom 25% roster in the entire league?
Pro Football Focus does.
Writers Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman released their rankings for all 32 teams in the NFL just a few short weeks ago, and they were not kind to the guys dressed in aqua and orange — ranking the Miami Dolphins as the 24th best roster in the league.
The Dolphins were only ranked ahead of eight rosters — the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, New York Giants, New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns.
While offseason rankings can be fun — or disappointing in this case — they ultimately don’t mean anything until the regular season kicks off and the games actually count in the standings. The Dolphins will have every opportunity to prove their doubters wrong — or right — once the bullets are live this September.
