Former UFC featherweight champion, Alex Volkanovski, will have an opportunity to reclaim the 145-pound crown when he collides with No. 3-ranked contender, Diego Lopes, atop the UFC 314 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sat., April 12, 2025 at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
That’s less than three weeks away.
Lopes has been calling for a 145-pound title fight for several months and appears ready to capitalize on the vacant opportunity to claim featherweight gold. The Brazilian posted some of his pad work earlier this week and combat sports fans are predicting a “Great” knockout.

BEAST MODE!
Fan reactions on social media ranged from “RIP Alex” to “New Champ!” One Volkanovski fan begged Lopes “please don’t KO” the former champ, who already suffered back-to-back knockout losses in recent defeats to Islam Makhachev (UFC 294) and Ilia Topuria (UFC 298).
Lopes improved to 26-6 by outlasting Brian Ortega as part of the UFC 306 fight card last fall in Las Vegas, his fifth straight win. Volkanovski (26-4), four years older than his opponent at 36, remains a slight betting favorite at -155 on the moneyline, against +130 for Lopes.
