When you consider former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, you don’t usually consider somebody who was technologically or analytically savvy.

Coughlin was an old-school soccer thoughts who did issues in an old-school soccer approach. That’s, till a chat from his late spouse, Judy, led to the coach displaying a bit extra of his private aspect.

Because it seems, that wasn’t the one evolution Coughlin made throughout his time with the Giants.

In a model new e-book, Soccer Is a Numbers Recreation: Professional Soccer Focus and How a Knowledge-Pushed Method Shook Up the Sport, PFF’s Matthew Coller reveals that Coughlin was so enthralled with their analytical knowledge that the corporate needed to rent somebody to deal solely with the Giants.

“The extra they obtained the knowledge, the extra that Tom Coughlin needed to go to (former Giants senior director of soccer info) Jon Berger and say, ‘Hey, are you able to get PFF to offer us this? Can we discover out that?’ (It obtained) to the purpose the place PFF assigned one particular person simply to reply Giants questions,” Coller elaborated on the Giants Huddle podcast.

Coughlin and the Giants had been so happy with the assistance supplied by the PFF worker that they invited him to Tremendous Bowl XLVI on their behalf.

“Within the Tremendous Bowl, the second time they went to the Tremendous Bowl, they gave that man a ticket to the Tremendous Bowl as a result of they felt he was so helpful in serving to them out (and) answering no matter Tom Coughlin’s questions had been,” Coller mentioned.

Clearly, much more than PFF knowledge went into defeating the New England Patriots for the second time in 4 years, however Coughlin, unbeknownst to many, consumed each little bit of it he might. And it clearly paid dividends.
