Derrick Rose has recalled his first experience as an All-Star player in 2010 and revealed what scared him the most about it.

The All-Star game was far more a big deal in 2010, since the players actually took it more seriously, but it was more the  focus being on Rose so much that he didn’t enjoy – being the ever-humble guy that he is.

“I’m scared because I ain’t want no shine from the sh*t,” Rose explained to Tony Allen and Zach Randolph on the Out The Mud podcast.

“I wanted to go to the arena and just leave, and just show up the next day, next game. I ain’t want no praise or anything for it at the time.”

The All-Star game is for sure about the basketball, but is also about providing fans with behind-the-scenes-footage and things of that nature and Rose says that something he struggled with in the early days and during his maiden All-Star appearance.

“So, cameras doing this right now—talking right now, bro—I would have been, I mean, you can see it on camera when I was younger,” Rose said. “I did not want no parts of being on camera. Like some Mike Tyson-type sh*t, you know what I’m saying? But that’s solely because of my pure love for the game.”

Although it wasn’t the side of basketball he enjoyed, Rose knew that sponsorships, like his big Adidas deal and keeping the NBA happy, was key to providing for his nearest and dearest.

“I did not want to be in that position. But at the same time, I knew I had to be in that position in order to change my family’s lives,” D-Rose quipped.
