Images and a video emerge of what the new facility will look like as young athletes prepare to compete there in June
Plans to renovate Crystal Palace have moved on this week with new image of the proposed track redevelopment being released together with a video.
The news comes on the eve of the South of England Age Group Championships for young athletes, which is being staged at Crystal Palace on June 7-8.
The redevelopment will be completed by Morgan Sindall Construction, the Mayor of London has announced, with the work to begin in the second half of 2025 and be completed by 2028.
Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is an historic and much-loved sporting and community facility where many UK sporting stars have started their careers and trained, but which needs major investment and refurbishment.
“We look forward to working closely with partners and the local community to create an outstanding sporting venue.”
Richard Dobson, of Morgan Sindall Construction, added that he was delighted to work on the historic sporting venue. “We look forward to continuing our close and collaborative relationship with the Greater London Authority on this regeneration,” he said.
Sitting between the refurbished grade II-listed main building and the athletics stadium will be a 200m outdoor track and state-of-the-art 100m indoor sprinting facility.
