Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al Nassr had been one of the biggest question marks leading up to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, with several clubs rumored to be eyeing a move for the Portuguese star. But following Portugal’s UEFA Nations League victory over Spain, Ronaldo has made a definitive statement about where he stands.

Reports had suggested that Ronaldo and Al Nassr were in talks to extend his contract, which is currently set to expire on June 30. However, uncertainty grew in recent weeks as neither side made any public comments, fueling speculation of an imminent departure—especially with Al Nassr not competing in any upcoming international tournaments.

Now, with the Nations League campaign wrapped up and the Club World Cup approaching, Ronaldo addressed his future directly. When asked about his next move, he replied with two clear statements: “Practically nothing will change,” and when pressed if his future was still with Al Nassr, he responded, “Yes.”

Amid ongoing rumors and speculation, even FIFA president Gianni Infantino had commented on the possibility of Ronaldo appearing in the Club World Cup. But the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has now made it clear: he will remain at Al Nassr, and he will not be participating in the intercontinental tournament with another team.

Ronaldo has consistently emphasized that his focus is on the short term, acknowledging that his career is nearing its final chapters. With a decision now made, Al Nassr and Ronaldo are expected to finalize a new contract while also beginning preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

Al Nassr’s plan to build a competitive team around Ronaldo

Al Nassr had made a high-profile move by signing Jhon Durán during the winter window in a record deal, aiming to support the squad’s title ambitions. However, the team fell short in key competitions and failed to qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite. Despite that, the Saudi club remained committed to keeping Ronaldo, regardless of how the season ended.

According to Fabrizio Romano, one of Al Nassr’s top targets this summer is UEFA Champions League winner Fabian Ruiz. While no official bid has been submitted yet—especially with PSG preparing for the Club World Cup—Ruiz is high on the list as the club looks to strengthen its midfield.

On the defensive side, with Aymeric Laporte reportedly on his way out, Spanish outlet Sport claims that FC Barcelona center back Andreas Christensen has caught Al Nassr’s attention. With his contract set to expire next year and Barça dealing with financial difficulties, a formal bid could be made soon to bring him to Saudi Arabia.
