An NBA insider recently suggested that the Warriors should be looking to sign Derrick White this offseason, what would it take for them to get him?
In case you missed it, Lachlan Murdock of The Ringer had this to say on a recent podcast appearance:
“Another guy that I think you should look at for the Warriors going forward is Derrick White,” Murdock said on The Zach Lowe Show. “A guy like that I think is something that the Warriors are looking at right now because Boston is expected in league circles to have some sort of fire sale or some sort of maybe reset… Just somebody that can play defense and kind of just settle everyone down. Especially when you have a young group like that, you need to settle them down in the non-Steph [Curry] minutes, so that’s something to figure out.”
Lowe then went on to say that the Celtics may have to at least consider moving White and his $28.1 million contract to shed some salary.
“I’ve talked about how depressing trading Derrick White would be for Boston, and the sort of a dilemma they face in terms of, ‘How much of a reset do we really want to have and who we want to be back here when Tatum comes back?’” Lowe said. “Who has trade value in the interim and where (does) Derrick White fit in that conversation?”
Following Murdoch’s comments, Warriors Wire mocked up what a potential trade package could look like:
Celtics Get: Gary Payton II, Buddy Hield, Trayce Jackson-Davis, a 2027 first-round pick (lottery protected).
Warriors Get: Derrick White
The Celtics are slated to make changes this offseason, but many are tipping that players like Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis will be on the trading block before White will be.
NBA insider Marc Stein says that Boston are “more apt” to make Holiday available via trade than White, and that Porzingis is considered the franchises “most movable vet” because he’s on an expiring contract.
