Could Chris Paul Be Heading to the Dallas Mavericks Next?

Chris Paul could be suiting up for a different squad next season, and the Dallas Mavericks might be first in line.

The 40-year-old point guard is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Paul could be on the move once again, this time from the San Antonio Spurs to the Mavericks, according to Eric Pincus.

“San Antonio may want Paul back because of who he is and what he’s capable of doing, but with De’Aaron Fox, rookie of the year Stephon Castle and guard Dylan Harper (the Spurs’ presumed No. 2 overall pick), the veteran may choose a team giving him a greater opportunity to play,” Pincus said.

The logic behind the prediction is tied to Dallas’ current situation, with Pincus explaining, “While he has strong ties to Los Angeles (Lakers and Clippers), where his family has lived (don’t count them out), he may go to a team with an injured starting point guard. Prediction: The Dallas Mavericks, who need a replacement guard until Kyrie Irving is healthy, use the TMLE on Paul.”

Irving is expected to miss a significant chunk of the 2025-26 season due to a left ACL tear, creating a gap at point guard that Paul could fill seamlessly.

Despite his age, CP3 just played all 82 games for the Spurs this past season, averaging 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists, while shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 37.7 percent from deep, and 92.4 percent at the line.

Paul, a 12-time All-Star and member of the NBA’s Top 75 list, has played for seven different franchises in his legendary career, and could soon be adding an eighth.

Marc Stein of The Stein Line recently echoed Pincus’ sentiment, reporting that CP3 is “not expected to be back with the Spurs.”
