When President Donald Trump announced the planning of a UFC event on the White House grounds for next year’s U.S. Independence Day, some of the biggest names in the sport began lobbying to be on the historic fight card.
Former two-division UFC champion and widely considered the greatest mixed martial artists of all time Jon Jones ended a two-week retirement after hearing the news of a White House UFC event. While Jones may be considered the G.O.A.T., former two-division champion Conor McGregor is the king of pay-per-views. He holds seven of the Top 10 records for the most watched events in the fight promotion’s history.
McGregor last fought at UFC 264 four years ago in July 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier after suffering a broken leg in the final seconds of the opening round. He’s teased an octagon return for years but it hasn’t came to fruition. That may soon change.
He was expected to return at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler in June 2024 but pulled out of the fight citing a toe injury. The Irishman now wants his comeback to be part of the White House fight card.

“I’m going home, going to get the head down, going to rest. They’re testing me, I’m in the pool,” McGregor told The Schmo. “So get ready! And stay ready, because damage will be done! Oval office, White House garden!”
UFC CEO Dana White recently stated that the event will be ‘the best card’ the fight promotion has ever done.
“This is a Sphere, one of one, unique event that will never happen again. And I will blow the doors off this thing. I’m going to make this one of the greatest events of all time,” White said on the Spinnin Backfist MMA Show. “It will be a full card, and it will be the best card we’ve ever done to date.”
