Manchester United face the toughest test of their Europa League campaign so far in the semi-final first leg against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

United are enduring the worst Premier League season in their history and are destined for a bottom-half finish, but kept their Champions League hopes alive with an incredible comeback to beat Lyon in the quarter-finals.

But a trip to face Athletic, fourth in La Liga, is likely to be a much more imposing challenge.

Here are the confirmed line-ups for a massive game in the Basque Country.

Athletic Bilbao v Manchester United team news

Athletic Bilbao

Ernesto Valverde has largely stuck with the same side that beat Las Palmas 1-0 last time out.

But there is a big change, with star man Nico Williams coming in for top scorer Oihan Sancet, who was injured against Las Palmas.

Williams has 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season.

One of the heroes of Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 campaign, he is the man United will likely have to stop if they are to reach the final.

Unai Simon makes way in goal, with Julen Agirrezabala taking his place.

Athletic Bilbao: Agirrezabala, De Marcos, Vivian, Yeray, Yuri, Jauregizar, Ruiz de Galarreta, Inaki Williams, Berenguer, Nico Williams, Sannadi.

Subs: Boiro, Canales, Gomez, Prados, Nunez, Lekue, Djalo, Guruzeta, Vesga, Paredes, Gorosabel, Simon.

Manchester United

Ruben Amorim makes two changes from the side that drew 1-1 at Bournemouth in the Premier League last Sunday.

Victor Lindelof comes into the starting XI in place of Luke Shaw at the back.

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo drops to the bench, and is replaced by Manuel Ugarte.

Matthijs de Ligt and Amad Diallo are back from injury lay-offs and fit enough for places on the bench.

Manchester United: Onana, Yoro, Maguire, Lindelof, Mazraoui, Casemiro, Ugarte, Dorgu, Garnacho, Fernandes, Hojlund.

Subs: Bayindir, Heaton, de Ligt, Mount, Eriksen, Diallo, Shaw, Mainoo, Amass, Fredricson, Kamason, Mantato.
