Bayern Munich have confirmed that Eric Dier will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Speaking to the press on Friday, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund revealed it was a decision made by the English defender himself.
“We had discussions with Eric about a new contract,” Freund said. “He told us that he doesn’t want to extend and will leave us. He’s a great guy. We had a great time together. Hopefully he crowns his time with us with his first title.”
Dier is posed for a start in Bayern’s potentially title-clinching clash with RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday, as Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae struggle with injuries.
Meanwhile, Dier, 31, is reportedly expected to join AS Monaco ahead of next season, signing a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 side, with an option to have it extended by a further 12 months.
