Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris has made another significant investment in second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Harris purchased the 2024 Daniels Panini Prizm Black Finite one-of-one trading card for $500K at Fanatics Fest in New York City on Saturday. The 24-year-old QB attended the event.
Joey Carrion of WeTheHobby, a sports card store in Rochester, N.Y., found the card when he pulled it for Dr. Ojash Raval in a live stream on New Year’s Day, via Larry Holder of The Athletic. The box the card was discovered in cost just $36.
Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, put a $200K bounty on the card before WeTheHobby pulled it back and let Raval sell it to Josh Roth and Jacob Ramos of Florida-based Rothcards for an unspecified amount. Roth and Ramos subsequently sold it to Harris at Fanatics Fest.
The purchase is small potatoes for Harris, who, according to Forbes, has a net worth of $10B. Plus, the card could be worth even more if Daniels keeps improving after his spectacular rookie season.
Last season, Daniels, the No. 2 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, led the Commanders to their first NFC Championship Game since the 1991 season. For his efforts, he won 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury thinks Daniels — who threw 25 touchdown passes in 17 regular-season starts — is only scratching the surface of his potential.
“You can see the comfort level was there this year,” Kingsbury said of Daniels at OTAs in May. “I mean, just watching him move around, he’s not thinking as much, he’s playing fast and letting his natural gifts kind of take over, and that’s what we want to see. So, I expect him to take a big jump.”
Consider Harris buying the card as a way to show his belief in Daniels, who could be a valuable asset to his franchise for years to come.
