The Craig Jones Invitational 2 (CJI 2) will host a $1 million team tournament, and a few of the teams involved are hosting “Trials” events to fill up their line ups for August.

ADCC legend Lachlan Giles will be coaching the Australasia team, and he will be hosting a Trials event that starts on FRIDAY, May 9, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET. There will be a free live stream of the event, which will be embedded below.

The current Australasia team for CJI 2 has Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) stars Levi Jones-Leary and Lucas Kanard taking their 77 kg and 88 kg slots, respectively. This trials event will determine their 99 kg and +99 kg slots.

They will also have a “wild card” pick for 66 kg, which has already been selected and will be revealed during the event as well.

ADCC legend Lachlan Giles will be hosting a CJI trials event as he will be the coach of Team Australasia.

CJI 2 Australasia Trials Rules and Competitors

Three quarters of the normal CJI pit will be used for this trials event at the Absolute MMA St-Kilda gym.

16-man tournament qualifier

Rules: IBJJF point system, with submissions scored as well. Wrestling-style stalling calls, where if you get called for stalling you have 30 seconds to score points or else you get points deducted.

Winner of the 16-man tournament makes it to the 6-man round robin. Competitors and brackets are below:

6-man round robin

The top two grapplers get the two spots at -99 kg and +99 kg.

Rules: Submission only rules. If there’s a tie for the second and third spot, only then will judges try to score their earlier matches and decide a winner.

Competitors list: Declan Moody, Bob Frias, Alibi Orazbek, Kaya Rudolph, Belal Etaibari, and the 16-man tournament winner.

CJI 2 Australasia Trials free live stream, how to watch, start time

The CJI 2 Australasia Trials will happen at the Absolute MMA St-Kilda gym in Australia this weekend. For those in the US, the live stream will be broadcast starting FRIDAY, May 9, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET in the US.

In local Australia time, the event will be 12 pm AEST on May 10, 2025.

A free live stream of CJI 2 trials will be on the B-Team YouTube channel, which will also be embedded here once it becomes available.
