Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested on Friday, according to judicial records in Williamson County, Texas.
Per the website, the 21-year-old was booked by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of Assault on a Family/Household Member by Impeding Breath/Circulation.
Kansas City traded up in the first round of last year’s NFL Draft to select Worthy with the No. 28 overall pick — and he went on to have an excellent season and was the leading receiver in Super Bowl LIX. The club recently announced that Worthy won the Mack Lee Hill Award for top rookie.
When reached for comment, a team spokesperson told Arrowhead Pride, “We are aware and gathering information.” The league is also aware of the situation.
Worthy’s lawyers, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett later released a statement on his behalf:
“We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest. We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation.
“The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity. She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.
“We will continue to cooperate with the Williamson County authorities as we have full faith that their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence.”
The Chiefs had already been bracing for a 2025 suspension of its top receiver, Rashee Rice, stemming from an off-the-field incident that occurred during last year’s offseason.
We will update this post as more information becomes available.
