2025 NFL schedule release: 10 must-see matchups this season, including Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl LIX rematch | CBS Sports
2. Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills
This is the best rivalry in the NFL right now and it isn’t close. Josh Allen is the only quarterback that has beaten Patrick Mahomes four times in the regular season, sporting a 4-1 record against him. In the playoffs, Allen and the Bills have failed to beat the Chiefs — going 0-3 against them. The Chiefs and Bills seem to meet every year since they typically win their division, meaning we’re treated to another Mahomes-Allen showdown. This is a rematch of the thrilling AFC Championship game from last season, and the Chiefs and Bills are likely to deliver another classic.
1. Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs
The Eagles and Chiefs have met twice in the Super Bowl over the past three seasons, the NFL’s current iteration of historic Super Bowl rivalries. Kansas City beat Philadelphia on a field goal in the final seconds of Super Bowl LVII while the Eagles blew out the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX last year. The Eagles and Chiefs have squared off in epic battles before, as the rivalry intensifies with a revenge game in Arrowhead Stadium. Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes is a matchup within itself, as the Eagles and Chiefs have a history between their front office and head coach. This is the can’t-miss regular season showdown in 2025.
Former All-Pro says the Chargers will win the AFC West over the Chiefs | Chiefs Wire
Former All-Pro linebacker Shawne Merriman recently appeared as a guest on the ‘Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams’ to share his thoughts on the Kansas City Chiefs not repeating as AFC West champions this season.
“I’m not just saying it because I’m a Charger. I think they’re going to win the division this year. I really feel that way. I don’t want to take anything away from Patrick Mahomes,” said Merriman. They (Chiefs) always (have) a great team and a helluva coach in Andy Reid. But truthfully, where the Chargers at, the jump that they made. Remember, before the season started last year, nobody saw the Chargers even being a playoff team.”
Merriman began playing with the Chargers in San Diego from 2005 to 2010. He earned All-Pro, Pro Bowl, and Defensive Rookie of the Year honors during that time.
Chargers opted not to protect Chiefs game from being picked for Brazil | NBC Sports
The Chargers could have kept their “home” game against the Chiefs at home. They decided not to.
The league reportedly has picked the Chiefs to be the Week 1 Friday night opponent for the Chargers in Brazil. The Chiefs game was not one of the two home games that Chargers chose to protect.
As recently explained by Ben Fischer and Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal, teams exporting home games to the international series can protect up to two games. The Chargers, per the report, did not protect any of their three AFC West home games.
Mahomes, RGIII earn induction into Texas High School Football HOF | Chiefs Wire
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is set to enter the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night alongside 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III and a class of exceptional men from the Lone Star State.
Mahomes, a native of Tyler, Texas, has already put together a resume that would make other NFL legends blush, and earned his spot in the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame after an exceptional career at Whitehouse High School.
Take a look at all of the other people who will be enshrined in the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame with Mahomes on Saturday night:
During his time with the Chiefs, Mahomes has won three Super Bowls and earned Super Bowl MVP honors for his efforts in each of Kansas City’s championship victories.
Derek Carr retires with $195M and zero answers for beating the Chiefs | Arrowhead Addict
Carr’s best effort against the Chiefs came in a memorable last-second win back in Week 7 of the 2017 season—remember it was one of only three victories for Carr against K.C. He threw for 3 touchdowns and 417 yards with zero picks and zero sacks. It was a masterful effort that included a game-winning touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree as time expired.
Unfortunately for Carr, however, such moments were few and far between against the Chiefs. Andy Reid has owned the division for nine consecutive years, and even when Carr went to New Orleans for the last two seasons, he still couldn’t get the best of K.C. in a single effort in 2024.

WINNERS
Tyler Shough
The Saints’ second-round pick last month, the rookie quarterback seemed to have the inside track to start in 2025 given what were already apparent doubts about Carr’s availability for the upcoming season. Now – barring a disastrous offseason or unexpected surge from Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler – Shough, 25, seems almost certain to attain QB1 status quickly in the Big Easy. He enters the NFL following a seven-year college career often interrupted by injuries but started a personal best 12 games for Louisville in 2024. He’s smart, mature and has a big arm, traits that should give him a shot to stick – especially given how Rattler and Haener have struggled early on in their own NFL careers.
Source: Raiders sign veteran LB Jaylon Smith after tryout | ESPN
Jaylon Smith will attempt to resurrect his career in Las Vegas. The veteran linebacker is signing with the Raiders after a weekend tryout at rookie minicamp, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday.
Smith, 29, last played in 2023, appearing in one game for the Raiders. He totaled two tackles in 25 defensive snaps in Las Vegas’ Week 9 victory over the New York Giants. He was later waived.
He began his career with the Dallas Cowboys, who chose him in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft.
Smith played five seasons with the Cowboys and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2019 after collecting 142 tackles, 9 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles.

Chiefs Roster: Will the team have a top passing trio in 2025?
7. Kansas City Chiefs: QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Travis Kelce and WR Rashee Rice
Yes, an aging Kelce is not what he was just a few years ago. But the connection he shares with Mahomes remains lethal. Rice, meanwhile, is one of the NFL’s top young receivers. The 2023 second-round pick led the league with 24 receptions through three weeks last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Mahomes’ production was down last year, but his track record suggests that was the product of his supporting cast more than him.
My take
The Bengals had better hope their passing trio really is the league’s best. The 2025 salary-cap hits for Burrow, Chase and Higgins add up to just over one-third of the team’s total cap. This compares to less than 18% for Kansas City’s Mahomes, Kelce and Rice.
By going all-in on its three offensive stars, Cincinnati has placed a large bet on its passing game. And why not? In 2021 — with those same three players leading the offense — the Bengals beat the Chiefs on the way to a Super Bowl loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
But the following spring, the Chiefs traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, beginning three straight offseasons where the narrative about the Kansas City offense was centered on how it could replace him. Without Hill, however, the Chiefs became the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls in almost two decades — and the only team in history to advance to a third after doing so.
