Chennai Super Kings may be going through their toughest phase in IPL history, but their batting coach, Michael Hussey, hasn’t given up hope just yet. After suffering their fifth straight defeat and slipping to the ninth position on the IPL 2025 points table, Michael Hussey still believes that Chennai Super Kings can bounce back.
With eight matches remaining in the ongoing IPL 2025, Hussey feels Chennai Super Kings still have a shot at making it to the playoffs. The CSK batting coach has stressed that the key lies in building momentum at the right time, and he is confident that one or two good games can turn things around.

Hussey admitted that the team hasn’t played well but stressed that the players are working hard to change the momentum. But he believes that if they can pick up a few wins quickly, the confidence in the camp could return, and a comeback might still be possible in the tournament.
Michael Hussey said at the post-match presentation, “We are certainly not putting the white flag up just yet. You only have to get in to scrape into that fourth place. And a big, long tournament like the IPL is about momentum. Now, certainly, the momentum is not with us at the moment whatsoever. We haven’t been playing good cricket consistently.”

The CSK batting coach further noted, “We definitely acknowledge that, but that’s not to say things can’t turn around and can’t turn around quickly. We might be able to scrape into one of those last positions in the table come playoff time. And it’s a long way ahead, and we certainly need to change things around. But we still believe that we can do that.”
Hussey stressed that it’s important for the Chennai Super Kings to stay united during tough times. He believes that there’s no need to make big changes just to get results in the tournament. The players should keep playing in their natural style, as that’s what got them into the IPL.
He feels that making too many changes or losing team unity could make things worse instead of better. Hussey insisted that they should keep trusting their process and work hard as a team. The batting coach also backed the senior players to make a strong comeback in the tournament.

CSK coach further added, “I don’t necessarily agree with the fact that they’re beyond their best. I still think we can find their best form and see some great performances from them.” Interestingly, Hussey said that the youngsters would get a chance when the Chennai Super Kings are out of the playoffs race.
Hussey further noted, “We still believe we’ve got the talent in the dressing room to turn this around. It’s going to take some hard work, no question about that. But we’re going to find out who our true supporters are, the ones that really stick with us.”
At the end, Hussey praised CSK fans for always supporting the team. He said the players feel bad about the losses and want to bounce back for the fans. The batting coach hopes that the fans continue to stand by the team even during this tough phase.
