Chelsea are reportedly in discussions over a loan-to-buy deal for Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho’s time at United seems to have come to an end, having fallen out with Ruben Amorim. This came after Garnacho questioned the head coach’s decision not to start him in the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine branded United’s season “s***”, while casting doubts over his future at Old Trafford. It didn’t help that his brother also took to social media and claimed that he had been “thrown under the bus” by Amorim.

Amorim is understood to have lambasted Garnacho in front of the entire squad and informed him that he should look for a new club.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Garnacho is guaranteed to leave United this summer. The 20-year-old is attracting interest from Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Al-Nassr. However, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that he is keen on staying in the Premier League.

Chelsea explored a move for Garnacho during the summer transfer window but it didn’t materialise.

The Blues are understood to still be keen on the 20-year-old, with fresh developments indicating that efforts are now being made to secure him, albeit on an initial loan deal.

This is according to Chelsea insider Simon Phillips, who claims the London club are considering a Jadon Sancho-style swoop for Garnacho.

Phillips wrote on Substack [via Football365], “Chelsea are also looking at new attacking midfielders who can play centrally as well as wide areas, there is a belief that a couple wingers could arrive still.”

“Gittens is in the works, there is interest in Malick Fofana of Lyon, and the Alejandro Garnacho noise just will not go away.”

“Until now, our sources had not heard too much on Garnacho other than tentative interest. However, we have been hearing more and more noise on this one throughout this week, and fresh info has also just come in on him.”

“SPTC sources have heard that Chelsea have been discussing signing Garnacho on a loan to buy deal, just as they did with Jadon Sancho. Of course, both players are Manchester United players, so it would not be a deal that would be unfamiliar to either club and could suit both if the fee is right.”

“I’m not sure if it would be a permanent buy with an option to send him back with a fee, or a straight loan with an option/obligation.”

“There is nothing to suggest this is definitely what will happen, but it is something that has been discussed internally at Chelsea should they decide to go for Garnacho.”

United are unlikely to entertain any loan proposals for Garnacho, particularly from Chelsea, who pulled out of their obligation to sign Sancho permanently, despite paying a £5m penalty fee.

It’s been said that United want a fee in the region of £60m – £70m to sanction Garnacho’s departure.

For now, this claim by SPTC hasn’t been widely backed and it’s worth holding off on any firm conclusions until more reputable sources weigh in.
