Former heavyweight titleholder Charles Martin has largely been off the radar as far as relevant top for some time now, but he’s aiming to earn his way back to a chance at a world title and thinks beating heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma will put him back on that path.

Martin lost a unanimous decision to Jared Anderson in July 2023 but tells Sky Sports that he fought him on only a week’s notice and still hurt him several times during that fight, reasoning that he would absolutely have stopped him if he were afforded a full training camp. Martin is now willing to go up against Itauma in order to prove his worth.

“I want another title shot, and I know knocking off a young, strong guy that everyone’s talking about would line me up for someone like Daniel Dubois,” Martin said. “So I am willing to do whatever I have to do to get back in position.”

Itauma may only be 20 years old at this point but he’s rising quickly on the British boxing scene, having stopped his last seven opponents within only two rounds. Obviously Martin is doing some lobbying here as he’s much more experienced than Itauma, but that doesn’t make it a surefire win for him even if he manages to talk himself into the fight.
