Charles Barkley on LeBron James-Stephen A. Smith beef: LeBron's too big to be that type of bully, it turned me off

CelticsBlog exit interview: Jordan Walsh

They both had an awful week. They both had an awful week. CHARLES BARKLEY: LeBron James — he’s too big to be that type of bully. To bully Stephen A. Smith, and to bully Brian Windhorst. Brian Windhorst is a sweet person, man. He’s just trying to do his thing. I’ve always liked LeBron, but him being a bully — it turned me off, Dan. But I will say this: Stephen A., the way he reacted, was so lame and weak. And Stephen A. is a good dude, man. For him to react like that… LeBron — like I said — I blame him for starting the bullying going on Pat’s show, just bullying people. Because you know, LeBron — he’s a control freak. He knows everything he’s doing. He knew when he walked up to Stephen A. what he was doing. But the way Stephen A. reacted — going on Gilbert’s podcast, talking tough — come on, man. You’re better than that.Source: YouTube

Crazy sequence here in Chicago: Patrick Williams hit the corner 3 to cut the Lakers’ lead to 115-113. A bad inbound pass from LeBron James is stolen by Josh Giddey, who assists Coby White on another 3, giving the Bulls a 116-115 lead.

The Lakers look a step slow to start things off on the 2nd night of their b2b tonight in CHI. They trail 32-22 after 1Q. LAL shooting just 9-of-24 (37.5%) including 2-of-9 from 3 (22.2%). LeBron and Luka are a combined 4-of-12. – 8:39 PM

More on this storyline

“Are you following everybody?” Patrick asked, seemingly looking to confirm Johnson will join Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaq in bringing Inside the NBA to ESPN next season. “Yeah, this is the plan,” Johnson said. “We’re gonna continue to do the show. But it’s just not gonna air on TNT because the NBA on TNT is no more after these playoffs. But we’ll still do the show in Atlanta; still do it with the same production crew; it will just air on ABC/ESPN on certain nights.” -via Awful Announcing / March 27, 2025
Mamukelashvili didn’t play in the third quarter. But in the final frame, he lit up the Knicks for 21 points on 8-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Mamukelashvili heated up so much that teammate Chris Paul started calling actions down the stretch to get his teammate more looks. “Luckily, I’ve played for a while and sort of know the art of getting guys shots,” Paul said. “Mamu is an amazing teammate. He comes in and works hard every day, cheers guys on, always in a good mood, good attitude. When he’s shooting the ball like that, you just try to find the guy.” Mamukelashvili became the fourth player in NBA history to shoot 90% from the field, 100% on 3-pointers and 100% on free throws in a game, joining Tyrese Haliburton (2022), Gary Payton (1995) and Charles Barkley. He also ranks as the third Spur to knock down 7-of-7 or better on 3-pointers, joining Matt Bonner (2010) and Steve Smith (2001). -via ESPN / March 20, 2025
Stephen A. Smith decided to answer on that topic and share his point of view on Barkley’s comments, especially the on on Kendrick Perkins’ quotes about LeBron James-Luka Doncic duo: “Barkley does television, he’d never be accused of knowing television,” the face of ESPN said on Friday’s episode of “First Take.” “That would be Ernie Johnson who handles that responsibility. Maybe Charles Barkley should look at his rundowns from time to time…” “The fact of the matter is some stories get a higher profile than others because they resonate with the viewing public, and in television that matters. It’s called ratings.” -via BasketNews / March 8, 2025
