UFC star Carlos Prates has opened up and admitted how hurt he was to experience defeat in the main event of UFC Kansas City last weekend.
As we know, Carlos Prates is one of the most feared welterweights on the roster. The Fighting Nerds sensation has been turning back fighters in every direction over the course of the last few years, but when put up against Ian Machado Garry on Saturday night, he just couldn’t quite get the job done.
Carlos Prates did manage to have a late surge in the fifth round and many felt as if he could’ve gotten Machado Garry out of there, but it wasn’t enough. Now, the Brazilian will head back to the drawing board, as he hopes to rebound in his next outing – whenever that may be.
In a recent Instagram post, Carlos Prates spoke candidly about how it felt to suffer a loss for the first time in six years, ending an 11-fight win streak.
Carlos Prates releases statement
“Guys, this is crazy. Six years without losing, I had forgotten how much it hurts, how it hurts the heart, the soul, more than any other part of the body, all day thinking ‘what if I had caught the back,’ ‘what if I knocked him down,’ what if I touched him more” … and so on,” Prates wrote on Instagram (translation via Google Translate).
“Time to go home, take care of the body and come back stronger than every other time. Despite everything, this week was awesome. We had some awesome days, lots of lessons and so on. I have nothing to complain about. Thanks to everyone who cheered, sent messages, my team, my crown, everyone involved in this journey. I can’t wait to be back. THE NIGHTMARE HAS JUST BEGUN!”
