Mike Coppinger reports that longtime rivals Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo will share a May 31st PBC on Prime show in Vegas ahead of a planned grudge match later this year.
Plant (23-4, 13 KO) has fought just three times in each of the last three years, sandwiching a loss to David Benavidez between knockouts of Anthony Dirrell and Trevor McCumby. His inaugural bout of 2025 pits him against Jose Armando Resendiz (15-2, 11 KO), a career middleweight who got smoked by Elijah Garcia in 2023 and whose only win of note came over the thoroughly fried Jarrett Hurd.
Charlo (33-0, 22 KO) has seen action all of once since 2021, missing weight and failing to impress against a hobbled Jose Benavidez Jr in November 2023. His personal life has by all accounts become a slow-motion train wreck, culminating in the WBC stripping him of his middleweight title last year following an arrest for DWI. He likewise faces an uninspiring middleweight in Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KO), who was linked to a December showdown with Charlo that never materialized.
Honestly, this is pointless. Charlo is damaged goods and extremely unlikely to show up for the LaManna fight, never mind in any sort of shape. Plant’s still around his prime at 32 and has wasted plenty of time already; get him into a meaningful fight and stop chasing a guy whose name value is years past its expiration date.
